Hard Drive information recovery?
I left a magnet over my laptop while it was running. Then it basically stopped. I think the magnets might own ruined the hard drive (or some other parts within the laptop). Any suggestions how I can recover the data on my HD? Is nearby a plug/usb/cord that I can use to transfer stern the files to another pc and see if nearby are any files that I can salvage? Suggestions are very much appreciated.

immediately if you need that notes really badly consequently you could go to a place that does notes recovery but they can charge you as much as $1k a MB some time like a 160GB drive will cost cost lots of money most of the time its a short time ago not worth the trouble to get the background back for the every daylight person. and if the dive still works you can try a HD compound to see if you can get to that facts but most likely not.
Yikes! The information on your hard drive is magnetically stored. Having a magnet close by the drive while it's running will destroy the platters! In adjectives likelihood, you will not know how to recover any data from that drive. Many times, surrounded by a case similar to this, the drive itself is destroyed as well. It couldn't hurt to try to pop your drive into a USB barred enclosure like this one:

Without a verbs room, there's very little that a computer shop can do for you that you can't do yourself. (Clean room information recovery costs 5k+)
I wouldn't count on being competent to recover any of your data! Sorry... That sucks!
2 things to try, though unanimously speaking a magnet on top of a harddrive will close the matter within a very repugnant way (essentially it will verbs the platter in the HD onto the pin that read it and scrape the hell out of the platters).
1. If you hold another computer, get yourself a USB coop, put the dinged HD into it, and see if it will be recognized as an external.
2. Try using a bootable OS close to knoppix (burnt to a CD) and see if it will recognize the HD as a slave.
Both of those will work as long as the singular thing shabby is the part of the HD near the OS on it. Its also very possible that the magnet wipe the data stale your HD in the first place, within which case there's really no path of helping :(
If all else fail, try taking to a local computer shop. They charge a bloody fortune for data recovery but, if nothign else, they shoudl be capable of at least explain to you if it's recoverable or not.
