If the hard drive is making sounds you own a limited skylight to remove your data. It may already be to postponed.
If you have a replacement drive I would install it and window before I go any further. Once you have window on the new drive slave the behind the times drive to the computer and use the new drive to move or copy files from the antiquated drive.
That noise you here is more than probable a bearing trying to appropriate, which will render the drive useless. Only use the drive if you absolutely own to, until you can transfer the facts.
