I own had a proper information recover done once at a computer place, but wondered if I could buy a download that would do a good adequate job? There's so heaps to choose, I just required a bit of a helping hand formerly my pc draws its later breath...

Well I only enjoy one recommendation which tend to cure most problems. I'm assuming (as you do not say) that you're running Windows, with the antiquated NTFS filesystem. It is incredible, and totally unreasonable that the operating system will in actual fact damage files and lose notes when it crashes.
I use Ubuntu, which survives power cuts - and it is very assured to install a tool called testdisk which is practised of finding partitions, files and adjectives kinds of things that enjoy been supposedly delete.
The beauty is that once you download and burn the iso to a compact disc, you have an operating system which is incorruptable, it is on compact disc!! It also does not use your hard disk unless you choose to install it nearby.
Any time I had trouble near Windows, i used Ubuntu to get my files final, or continue working (it have a full office suite, and graphics editor similar to Photoshop - and it's adjectives free!)
In the end, I in recent times kept XP for installing games - I never use it for anyting else. Ubuntu now have the ext4 filesystem which can check itself (a 5-stage disk check) and fix all the errors within - wait for it - around 10 second or less. It is so much faster and more restructured than anything Microsoft ever created that I wonder why anybody would trust anything to a Windows operating sytstem any more! It is unstable and insecure by design, from first install it is extremely vulnerable!
Get Ubuntu and fix window, but better still, blow windblows away forever!
I use Stellar Phoenix.

It uses one and only modern algorithms to recover files that other software either recovers incorrectly or is unqualified to detect.
