How can I restore an iTouch from recovery mode lacking losing my facts?

I'm not sure how my iTouch got put into recovery mode. It run out of battery and when i plugged it surrounded by, it was within recovery mode. I really don't want to lose my data, so is near any way i can restore it and hang on to all my background? Also, its version 3.1.2 if that helps/matters
