Data recovery programs and system restore, question.?
First, what are some decent background recovery programs? I'm hoping I can find something on download.com, but I'm not sure what I should be trawling for. Specifically, I'm looking to recover stuff lost whenever and explorer error shut down and wiped a wordpad program.
Second, for retrieving lost information, I've hear people recommend going to "System Restore" within System Tools, but I don't have it within System Tools. Anything else I should be looking for?

Your computer should enjoy system restore. Click start, all programs, trappings, system restore. Using system restore will only work if you've created a restore point or if there's any date listed surrounded by bold numbers. Your computer will create restore points such as when there be an update installed. Try picking a date before you have this trouble. If you are just trying to recover lost written information such as an edited email...unless you saved it at one time I don't believe it's possible to recover it.

As for the first question - you can't do what you are looking to do effortlessly - and there is not really software to give a hand you do it easily any.
