I am trying to recover data using a drive rescue program. It shows the files as "clusters" and give me the option to collect these clusters. It won't open and I haven't a clue what a cluster is. Can anyone facilitate? My files are still there, they are coming up, I only can't open them. Thanks

Wow, it have been a long time since I've fooled beside this... I'll give it my best shot.

"Clusters" refer to chunks of relatebeside yourself, which are no longer linked to an application. In other words, for example, if you hold a word processor document that is no longer associated to your word processor, it is a lost cluster.

I'm not certain what type of "lost clusters" you are trying to recover. But, if you can make available them a file dub and save them, you can uncap Windows Explorer, right click on the file, and you enjoy the option to "Open With." You should next be able to undo the file next to the application that created it.

I hope this helps.
There should be an way out to recover them. At least that's what I be able to to beside Stomp Soft Recover Lost Data, got adjectives my sisters pictures back for her.
A cluster is a "chunk" of information. The way facts is stored on your hard drive is contained by what they call sector and clusters. A sector is typically about 4,000 bytes, and a record can span many, several sectors. A cluster is a group of sector, and again, a file can own many clusters.

These clusters can be spread out adjectives over the disk drive (fragmentation). After reading and writing many files to a disk, some clusters may be flagged as human being used even though they do not contain any data. These are call "lost clusters" and can be fixed using ScanDisk on Windows or the Disk Utility program on the Mac.

In fact, ScanDisk is probably your best bet for fixing this. Generally these lost clusters are not something to verbs about. They're considered "lost" because they don't contain notes and aren't associated with a profile, but are flagged as being used and out of stock to the system.

You want to make sure you defragment your tricky drive on a regular basis - once a month is not too commonly. Or, spend a few dollars on a product called Diskkeeper, which keep your disk defragmented all the time.
