Hard Drive Data Recovery?

So in a nutshell, my friend spilled his tobacco spit (I suspect) on my Seagate 250 GB external tricky drive with a life's collection of music, movies, and ebooks and fried the S.O.B. when I plugged it contained by the power supply would just flash and nought would turn on so I cracked it open and attempted to salvage the drive as an internal but when its connected to the IDE cable my computer powers on consequently off surrounded by a fraction of a second...unplug computer works fine...does this mean a impossible motor or what and am I really gonna have to spend upwards of 500-2000 dollars to put it within a clean room and go and get my data?
Answers:
Could be motor or could be the circuit board. You could try a swap from a working model. Otherwise you are stuck taking it to a background recovery place. Most will perform a free diagnostic. I've have good experiences next to CBL

if it is a motor problem it could be $2000, if it's a circuit board maybe $800 - $1400
Also, tobacco spit?! Really?! People still chew that stuff?!
Tobasco!?!?
If its hardware downfall, especially clicking sound, you're heading for a hulking ticket cost for recovery - thousands.
Otherwise, your hard drive could enjoy a short circuit which is affecting your PC power. Maybe can try placing the drive in a dry cabinet to dry the moisture first. Otherwise, if that doesn't work - physical washout is likely beside burnt internal circuits.

Then again, no spoil using some cheaper recovery services to see if they can do anything on first level (non cleanroom/physical repair) . wwww.vensurerecoveryplus.com have some quite cheap, breakneck options, for you to see if you really stipulation to spend more at all.
nearby are data recovery programs out near but are expensive take it to a local guy he should enjoy a data recovery program or run on tigerdirect.com and look for one
