College student. Need notes recovery (hard drive). Can't afford a million dollars or getting ripped sour. Ideas?
Every company I talked to desires to charge AT LEAST $500. Does anyone know a company that can recover data for a lower price?

Call your local computer store and they should chat you through it...transfering files from one hard drive to another.
The best piece is to buy an external hard drive to put money on up ur data. This mode u have ur facts safely kept. Another passageway to back up is buy a pack of DVDRW and write to the DVD's. These two methods give u flexibility when to access ur data even when the Internet is down.
Depends what your idea is for recovering it - if the disk is physically damaged or not even recognised contained by a PC, you probably need a notes recovery service.
If it just won't boot or have read errors, your best bet is to try a copy of SpinRite from the Gibson Research Corporation (see source). Costs $89 but is very, vastly good - I hold used it on many imprecise PC disks and in every defence it has recovered at lowest some of the data, usually enable the disk to boot again if that was the problem. Works on FAT, NTFS, Linux partition, Novell and Macintosh disks (if they're removed and put in a PC first). They say-so it will even recover a TiVo and I don't even know what that is!
