How do you find a laptop to start up in need the recovery disk?

my laptop continues to say that it cannot start up. it keep saying that window did not start successfully. i cannot seem to locate my recovery disk, and i really have need of to get this working... is within a virus causing this? does anyone know how to fix it?!?!? minister to is appreciated!!
