What would come about if I run a gateway operating system disk on my toshiba to do a system recovery?

It likely will not even allow you to run the installer. Generally OEM software disks hold special protections in place to prevent them from self ran on other brands of computers.
If it would run, it would try to nouns drivers for hardware you don't have, and not enjoy drivers for your hardware. You'd probably end up near a door stop.
