Answers:
i haven't created a back up ever so i own no clue, but i suggest you switch to any linux OS(say ubuntu) from windows, coz once u do tat u can be pretty sure that no virus would attack ur sytem..and u can overrun up ur disk as much as u want widout worrying abt backups
What you can do is to trademark a Clone of your HDD, so the next time your PC will broke you merely restore everything from the clone. That what I do.
Before you do a clone, make sure you install adjectives necessary drivers, add-ons, correct the setting you like, every little detail. And hang on to in mind that the more stuff you install the bigger you Image would be and longer you would stipulation to create and restore. Also some programs updates every week so if you install something, in a few month, when you going to restore your system it would be ripened. So just install everything that you will use after a couple of month.
To create a clone you would have need of a special bootable cd with software. I'm using Hiren's BootCD and Acronis True Image application on it for cloning.
Let me know if nearby is something not clear or you need something else.
Good Luck.
