Computer won't start up go to a black peak beside a blinking cursor. When I put within the recovery disk, error?

I boot up and the hp screen comes up, and later it goes to a black eyeshade with a blinking cursor. I put surrounded by the recovery disk made on this computer, and it says it is not for this laptop.
