Recovery disk lend a hand...please?

Right can someone tell me what exactly is on a recovery disk set?

i call for one for my amilo li 2727 laptop.

Aparently the guy said its the following :

operating systom
drivers
and default applications


my request for information is are the above specific to just amilo li2727 laptops?
or can i download my own operating system, find adjectives the neccessary drivers online and it will work?

please help me mete out fujitsu want nearly 100 quid off me and i in recent times dont have that quality of money :/
