Where can you find recovery disk files?

I have a ibm thinkpad beside xp on it and whoever had it beforehand me messed it up and i dont have the recovery disk but i enjoy a usb flash drive, is it possible to find a laptop recovery disk and put it on and boot it thru the boot menu?
can you send me a knit to the site to get it?
