Best Linux Distro for profile recovery?

What is the best Linux distro for file recovery? I enjoy a friend who uses crunchbang, I've also heard of something resembling puppy linux or something, I want something that will boot somewhat fast bad a flash drive, and I can use for file recovery, I dont involve anything else...

Give Damn Small Linux a try (DSL). Boots pretty fast past its sell-by date flash drive, very desk light (about 50mb i think).

Actually that shouldn't matter puppy linux is small so you don't even hold to install it, you can even try regular ubuntu use the livecd and you can browse the files that need to be recovered
I use System rescue cd from http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page it is a live linux platform that includes dozens of applications and can be made to boot from flash drives,
it is excellent for adjectives sorts of recovery problems and has an application call photorec http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec which despite the name recovers most types of files.
It is fully functioning and totally free
