How to recover facts from a non-bootable HDD?

Hello, so while testing a firewire harddrive out(Ironically enough) the most important hard drive crashed(Looks resembling a worm). So, after doing a diagnostic from the BIOS and finding CRAP skittered all over the disk(As contained by... ERROR THIS AND THIS IS BAD)... i said to myself, big deal, collect my XP install disk!
The csrss.sys file is not competent to be replaced by the XP disk and it looks like some window media 9 .exe database is corrupted too.
The computer boots through BIOS, and then starts the window loading page with the public house moving and all and later it crashes at the same time on equal file every time(Strange: Its not the csrss.sys wallet either).

BASICALLY a new harddrive that fits specifically 80 or 120 GB is not that expensive, so I will install a new harddrive, nouns XP, tadaa!! But now what... how would i stir about setting up the other drive as a slave or whatnot, do i put it surrounded by the HDD2 slot and then set it as a slave contained by the bios? Is it easy drag/drop interface after that? gratitude a bunch !
Answers:
if the hdd is that bad here is nothing you can do in the region of it .also you can try to send it to a place that can try but it is costly
Use Recover my files!
Everyone else's proposal on the slave configuration is perfect. BUT: scan the disk first, or right away. Best path is to google McAffee Avert Stinger, a bootable virus scanner that scans minus risking infection of the healthy harddrive. If you can't find the files after configuring as slave, try this:

Do not put anything else on the Drive!
-You necessitate to have another PC running XP so that you can put the restored files from the formated HDD (HDD2) onto it's HDD (HDD1).
-Set HDD2 to slave.
-boot from HDD1
-create a backup folder for the HDD2 files
-open the run box (WINKEY + R)
-type "cmd"
-type "RECOVER [HDD1:] [path for backup] *"

that should work.
If not, contact me at the resource website I will inventory.

try it as a slave. but if that will not boot you can wipe it n us is as a brand new abandoned slave.
You can install it on the secondary IDE connector on the mother boad. When your other HDD boots up, the discouraging HDD will show up as drive d: and you should be able to retrieve your files sour of it.

This is one way of doing it, and the easiest.
