It depends on what you stingy by gone. It could be that some of the record keeping areas the computer puts on the drive when formatted are corrupted.
If you hold the original Windows disc you can boot your computer with this surrounded by your CD drive. Once loaded you can choose to repair an installation. Select what you want to repair and you will be taken to a command prompt. Type FIXBOOT and press enter. Then type FIXMBR and press enter. These two nouns do not have to be within uppercase. Now take the disc out of the CD drive and reset the computer.
If this works build sure you backup your data. If not you enjoy a more serious problem. In that case you should connect the concrete drive to another computer with some background recovery software installed.
It can be, at a price. When data is delete, its not actually delete just distinct as data that can over written. Therefore if you hold it into a computer shop, not sure if PC World can do it, they should be able to recover the information. Will probably cost alot tho...
Sometimes data can be recovered from a bungled hard drive. Try a local PC repairer or PC World. (I own had facts recovered and transferred to a new drive by a local PC shop)
I'd provide SpinRite (http://www.grc.com/sr/faq.htm) a shot. Even if it doesn't succeed in recovering information, it's still extremely valuable for thorny drive maintenance.
It depends on the make-up of the failure.
If it's the boot drive (C) next it's probable that the machine will not start. You should hail as in a recovery expert or steal it to your local friendly PC repair man.
There are usually small operations which hype in local press who'll sort you out for lb30 or so. If you can't find one after PC World will look at it but will charge considerably more.
If it is a second hard drive consequently start the machine and shift to -
Start Menu
Control Panel
Performance and Maintenance
See Basic Information about your Computer
Click on the Device Manager tab.
If you see the former Hard Drive listed (in add-on to the boot drive) then in that is a chance that the facts can be rescued. if it's not listed later there may be a hardware disaster. In either event, unless you're confident something like removing the drive, you should seek skilled comfort.
Much damage can be done by the unskilled in recent times poking around inside a PC case. If you're not 100% sure what you're doing, hold out.
Even 'professionals' don't always become conscious and take proper anti-static precautions (you must wear an earthed wrist strap at ALL times, a moment ago "touching the case" is useless as an anti-static precaution). Static electricity can cause undeveloped damage. That is, a component may not fall short immediatley but it's performance or duration is significantly affected.
When you're repaired please remember to vertebrae up your My Documents/My Pictures etc. folders at least monthly (preferably weekly). CDs or DVDs to do this are so cheap that it's better than taking probability.
its all gone, sorry, ive done various and ive never seen one that be recoverable
