I would not consider them inexpensive but without a doubt capable of handling newly about any tricky drive problem you have. It could be a couple hundred to a couple thousand depending on your necessitate.
Good luck!
have you tried turning rotten your computer and unplug your portable hard drive. and when the computer turns on and you can access my computers surrounded by xp, connect the portable hard drive hindmost again to see if it works.
I had like peas in a pod thing evolve to my WD passport. The shock of the drop destroyed the mosfet coupling. The drive is ok but it will no longer work through the WD passport electronic interface.

Open the case and remove the drive.

You can connect it though a USB port by an adapter.

BYTECC BT-300 USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Adapter is the one I use and I never have it fail.

Total cost is $35 including shipping and handling.

It depends how badly you want it. Your geek is going to own to open it up, possible swap out the control board surrounded by the drive. If there is physical wounded to the spindle or the disk itself, it will cost even more, and you'll get smaller quantity back. Figure $100 minimum, plus the time spent on it.

This is not a assignment for your Big Box's geeks - find a smaller independant who will actually give an account you what he/she can do, and at what cost.
