try starting within safe mode ( push F8 when starting up) when contained by safe mode amass all your background that you don't want to lose. if that don't work, take your sturdy drive to a friends house attached it as a second drive to there computer and copy adjectives the files that you don't want to lose. If your not happy trying adjectives that then telephone call a local PC doctor to fix it and pay them some stupid amount of money.
I'm not sure if you're asking going on for recovering data or asking for repairs guidance but

simplest way to do this - if you unstop up another working pc which uses indistinguishable operating system (xp) & connect your bad drive to the resident drive via a sata or settle cable, you might not even have to set it up through bios as a slave HD. Plug it into the cable, plug a spare molex nouns in - You can simply retrieve the background by dragging it from one drive to another under MY Computer. It's dependant on whether the drive is dog-eared or not and to what extent. Also, it's dependant on what kind of cable the drive uses. Source(s): Did it myself 3 yrs ago
There are a few things you can do as my suggestion:

For the easy solution you can of late pop in the Windows disc at start up and the computer will boot from the disc. Then follow the instructions for repairing a window install and it will just repair window leaving adjectives of your other files intact, it may show programs are not installed because the registry is new, but I assure you the files will still be nearby if directions in the prompts are followed.

Another piece you can do is download(on a different computer of course) an operating system I use when my computer won't boot, Knoppix which is a stand alone operating system run solely off a computer disc. This will agree to you go into your tricky drive and fix any problems there, if you know what the actual problem is.

The simplest solution I reflect on though is to bring it to a computer repair place and let them matter with it. If your not to big into computers you probablly shouldn't play around near it to much.
Keep tapping F8 as it restarts. choose the start within safe mode remedy. it will offer the choice of using system restore, select to use system restore and follow the instructions. It will allow you to budge back to how your system be on a previous date.
If this fails use Jamie's answer.
