How do I recover facts from my laptop unyielding drive?

My sisters laptop was infected next to a Mocmex type Trojan/Worm from a digital picture frame. Can I safely access the drive lacking spreading the malware? I think I want to use a USB paddock and connect it to my new laptop.
Answers:
If it's a unusual laptop then there's nil on it so if it gets infected you won't lose anything. You can simply do a factory restore. (you may need to craft the discs obviously)

Anyhow, your sister's drive, how important is the facts?
Is it REALLY important or is it something she will hold to learn a lesson on backup about? Because if you cannot retrieve the notes the only other odds is to send it out to a company that have a particulate air filtration room approaching On-Track or Iron Mountain and they usually charge about $1,800 to recover a drive.

If you USB the drive, any folder you touch, copy, view will be subject to infecting your system. Your best bet is to draw from an adapter for $8 that will connect your hopefille eide laptop HDD to a conventional EIDE 40/80pin controller (aka desktop) and boot to safe mode or a modboot disc (see link)
and later just copy individual the files you are concerned with over to a folder on the other drive. Go the bootdisc route b/c next you can be even safer by burning those files to a cd, then delete them off the unsullied drive, THEN booting to a full environment and running every known blaster and antivirus against that compact disc to ensure it's safe and you are home free.
That's what I would do. Source(s): Bart Boot. GOLD surrounded by my industry:
