Answers:
if you go underneath administrative tools in the control panel, you might know how to add the fence back using the Disk Management tool.
(control panel -> admin tools -> computer administration (local) -> Storage - Disk Management, that in Windows 2000 at least). Right click the divider and check out the options.
otherwise
If it is a hardware ruin then it will be tough or expensive. If problem be caused by a freak electrical event or software error, next you can probably grab your stuff past its sell-by date with software similar to Easy Recovery Pro. There might be some free stuff available too, but I don't have any experience near it.
I am assuming that it is just a regular drive (not factor of a RAID array).
Check into this terrific disk utility before you entirely administer up on a hard drive: 'Spinrite' by Gibson Research. It commonly fixes many HDD physical problems and /or recovers information.
Google for reviews, or go to 'grc.com' website for further details. About $70US second I heard, and can be used on multiple home systems (PC, Mac, Lin).
