Recovering notes from an infirm, broken, sturdy drive ...?
I have an antediluvian hard drive that died abundant years ago taking with it lots of my lids pictures and other priceless information. I just this minute came across that frozen drive while cleaning and would love to give the info rotten of it. Anyone know of a company who can do this for me as inexpensively as possible. The drive is only a 500 meg drive (yes that old)

IDE? You could probably squirrel away a lot of money if you buy a usb to settle adaptor (about 30 dollars).
I have software (and hardware for that matter) that should work- but your sturdy drive will need to fit into an storage area (unless you get a cable base unit).
If you're interested in going this route, drop me an email (you used to know me as Ronald H. McChrist- I've be here forever), I can help you. Source(s): IT Dept. Mgr.
EDIT: you could try a wall restoration program-
Most hard drives die because a disaster on their circuit board. You need to find an compatible drive that has a flawless board and switch them out. This will allow you to power it up and access your files, copying them to another drive.
Once that is done you can swap the circuit boards again and the other drive will still be functional. I mention this because you might not know how to find what you need for purchase, but someone might consent to you borrow the circuit board. Check around your local tech shops.
Bri, on the lighter side of this question,I read " rock-hard drive" and grinned.
and you woke up to a message " hard drive not found."
By this time I am rollin'! I only just made the cat run out of the room, scared witless.
My kids are wondering what on dust has made their mother crow, when I have spent the better portion of the day, bitchy and crying.

Seriously,B, I would dance with the first guy. Source(s): Wipes tears from her red eyes and wishes the poor guy "polite luck with his ( cold, lifleless, stagger and, dead,) knotty drive.
First I would run a diagnostic o see if the hard drive works. You should jump to the website of your hard drive architect and download a diagnostic utility to check the health of your rugged drive. It will be on the website under support. This must be run from bootable floppy, bootable usb, or bootable cd. Best odds.

Runs from boot floppy or cd and will test any tough drive.
OR

Runs in window and will test any complicated drive.
If the hard drive can be access I would suggest a connector similar to the one in this intermingle. They are available in any computer parts store. Be sure to capture one that has the type of adapter you own on your drive sata or most likely you own sata. The sample have both. With this you connect your hard drive to the computer via usb, and within are you files. Source(s): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…
Is the motor itself burned out? If so & it won't even spin up, you'll want to find an actual data recovery service that can remove the platters within a clean room environment. Otherwise, lots of private citizens own hardware/software like the other guy that answered, that can obtain the data bad of a damaged drive or one short a file system.
