Is it possible to recover notes from a macbook that wont start?

My mac's still under warranty but I don't want to pay envelope for data recovery. Is in that any way I can do it myself?
Answers:
There's no apology to assume that there is any interrupt to the hard drive newly because the computer won't boot. There could be some other hardware failure that didn't affect the firm drive.

Boot from a LiveCD and see if the internal HD mounts. If it does, then you've probably get some other hardware failure.

If you don't enjoy an optical drive, you could boot from an external hard drive next to a usable OS on it and then try to mount the internal HD.
While it can be done, honestly your best bet is expected going to be dealing direct with the MAC pros. If you do resolve to go at it yourself you should read this post, it is a virtuous reference..
