Can I recover background from a laptop that can't boot up?

I have an IBM laptop that get a virus, and wont boot up. Is there software that I can use to boot up the laptop and recover the background without taking out the not easy drive

See if you can download and run malwarebytes, may have to do it contained by safe mode
David K is right, the best road is to use a live cd... either linux or bart pe which is an xp live cd.

google for them both, burn them using an emblem burner, restart and set your first boot device to cd/dvd

boot into either linux or bart pe, browse the thorny disk for your files and copy them onto any removable media i.e flash drive or portable harddisk. Source(s): www.mobilecomputerclinic.com

I suggest that you investigate a live Linux compact disc download. these are free and after burning to a CD, the software will boot from your compact disc drive and let you explore files on the rugged drive. Not easy... requires some Linux skill, but the technique does let you retrieve aged files. Good luck.
if you take it to a specialist thet'll do it but taking out the strong drive is so easy. adjectives you need is to buy a tough drive enclosure and you're sorted.
if you hold or can borrow a windows installation cd/dvd you can do a repair install or run the recovery console by booting from the compact disc ( you may have to rework the boot order surrounded by the bios) from the recovery console run first "chkdsk /r" then run "fixmbr" after run "Fixboot" then reboot.

or poke about for RC.iso a cd image which will do one and the same thing
