How to install second firm drive to recover facts from corruption?

My mother-in-law's hard drive is corrupted and I want to install it as a second strong drive on my computer as a slave drive to see if I can recover data.

I own tried setting the jumper setting on one to slave (the corrupted one) but the computer wont recognise it,do I entail to set any plastic pins things in the master frozen drive as well as nearby isn't any in at hand at the min.

You may have a misunderstanding just about what the "master/slave" settings do. They do not dictate which is the system drive and which is an "extra" drive. They dictate which is considered primary by the IDE controller. If each drive is connected to its own controller, consequently each controller must consider its drive primary, so they both involve to be jumpered for master.

If a drive is alone on an IDE cable, it should be jumpered for master. If two drives share an IDE cable, one should be jumpered for master and one for slave.

If you're not 100% sure the original drive is jumpered for master (it may be set to auto-detect), clear sure to put the slave in the middle of the cable, not the terminate.
If it's corrupted then you can try booting something close to a Ubuntu LiveCD to see if you can actually win to the data (ie if it's the files that are corrupted or the operating system). If you can after you can burn them to CDs/copy them to the hard disk/flash drive.

Assuming you own set the SPARE hard drive to Master and the CORRUPTED not easy drive to Slave (checking the pin layouts on both drives as they're unlikely to be the same), then it's possible that the corrupted thorny drive has physically died. If this is the covering then the simply valid option may be to run the hard drive to specialist facts recovery people and settle up them to retrieve the data.

Make sure she make backups subsequent time!

Good luck, it's a total pain when this happen. Source(s): Own Knowledge
You do not have to do anything near the Master HDD.

For the problematic drive, you need to set it to SLAVE if you will connect it to duplicate ribbon cable as the Master. OR you can set the problematic drive as Master and connect it to IDE2 (secondary IDE port).

Check first if the drive is properly detected in BIOS. If it is detected contained by BIOS but does not show up in My Computer, its divider is messed up. Possible options:
1. Recover the dividing wall: http://hddguru.com/content/en/software/2…
2. Recover the data: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?a…
