Help! I want suggestion on Recovering Data from a severe error due to Disk Cleanup on Windows XP.?
I used the Disk Cleanup utility on my Seagate Freeagent External Drive of 500 GB and it seems to enjoy totally deleted everything. I required to free up some space so I was going to "compress mature files." I left my computer alone since I know it would take awhile and when I come back to check up on it, the process fanlight for the Disk Cleanup had disappeared. A bubble pop-up on the taskbar said Windows Delayed Write Failed on something similar to "H:\$mft". I checked the drive on my computer and it says that in that is still 459 GB being used up; practically what it have before I tried to verbs it up. This has, as you can picture, been fueling my hope that I can recover some amount of concealed data from the drive. Anyway, when I start on up the drive, everything is gone.
Now that I think going on for it, the drive was also originally within FAT format, I believe. Now, however, it says it's NTFS. Could the utility enjoy reformatted my drive without notification me? I hadn't thought about whether the utility could be incompatible next to my external before this.
In the meantime, I haven't unplugged the drive or turned rotten my computer for fear that I might throw away information that can be salvaged...and if I try to undamagingly disconnect the drive, it says it's surrounded by use. I've also analyzed the drive with two Recovery programs, but they both find nil on it.
I know this is a lengthy explanation, if anyone think they can help, please do, I'm desperate. I'm not sure if I kept any backup of the dozen albums of photos among other files on this drive, essentially, my final backup.

This isn't really a Seagate problem, but Seagate tech support has impressed me more than once. Try contacting them, they may own an easy solution for you.
