Recovering background from shabby CD-R - defacement to front?

I have a CD-R which, somehow, have a small amount of the surface scratched off of the front side. The disc will immediately no longer load, so I can't retrieve the files.

Is within anything I can do to "fix" the disc long enough to capture the files off it and burn them to a different CD-R? Metallic pen "painting" over the damage? Gluing a small piece of aluminum to the disc? Putting a sticker over the worn out area?

Hello Christopher

Go to the hardware store and draw from a can of Brasso. Gently polish with the Brasso. Often that will verbs up a CD and get it readable.

Go here to read about compact disc recovery and repair.

You can buy cd cleaners everywhere..
By front do you mean the lable side? If that isdamaged, the facts in the nouns has be destroyed and the CD is probably unreadable.

If you scrounging the side that gets written to you may know how to polish out the scratches if they are shallow satisfactory... brasso or T-cut (for those who don;t know it... automotive paint surface removal stuff, a creamy abrasive paste). Or at hand used to be a machine call a disk doctor designed to polish scratches out of the facade of CDs.
