As the previous responder suggested, you *may* find TestDisk {http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk} helpful and a biddable tool to have. Unfortunately, recovery of an ext3 directory is not a trivial process. If the data is thoroughly important, you *may* be capable of recover parts of the file, however.
