A virus is unlikely to have manage this much damage. The simply way to try to repair it would be using chkdsk, but if the electrical device can not read the drive at all it can not do this.
I'm not sure if this will work near an unreadable disk but I recently have one with the partition screwed up and these programs helped.

Partition Logic: http://partitionlogic.org.uk/
Boots from a disc into it's own mini-OS so you can do stuff to the partition.

Partition Zapper: http://www.meixler-tech.com/pzapper/
Runs from a floppy (after booting using your normal boot disc) and wipe all dividing wall info so you can start from fresh using fdisk, Partition Logic or whatever. Source(s): Used them both and they're great :)
I suggest that on another PC you create a BartPE bootable compact disc.

If it is virus then format unyielding drive and reload. If you try to do a recovery you will recover the virus as well. If re-loading XP it should fix the MBR no problem.
boot from window XP CD

Choose repair

after at command prompt type FIXMBR

choose Yes

Type FIXBOOT

Choose Yes

Finally Type CHKDSK /P

then reboot your PC
