Can database recovery software be used on external drives?
I have an outdated hard drive that I want to receive some stuff from but I don't want to throw it in my computer. Will folder recovery software work on external drives? ie. Flash drives, USB drives, especially USB-IDE drives.
Will some work and some not? Any suggestions?

Yes. Any recovery software will work. In fact, it's preferable to own the drive external to eliminate some risk of different data one written to the drive. (As new notes being written impede recovery.) Any mountable drive will work regardless of its connection type.
